who said: I heard Ibn Umar relate from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said it.
Al-Hakim said: “Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs.” Yet al-Talkhis reads: “According to the criteria of Muslim,” and al-Mundhiri likewise attributed this to al-Hakim in al-Targhib (4/20). All of this is mistaken, for it meets the criteria of al-Bukhari alone, since Muslim did not record from Yunus ibn al-Qasim.
Concerning the hadith, al-Mundhiri said: “Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir, and its narrators are among those relied upon in the Sahih.”
544 — “I eat as a servant eats, and I sit as a servant sits.”
Al-Baghawi recorded it in Sharh al-Sunnah (3/187/2), through the route of Abu al-Shaykh, from Ubayd Allah ibn al-Walid, from Abd Allah ibn Ubayd ibn Umayr, from Aishah, who said: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, eat reclining—may Allah ransom me for you—for that would be easier for you.” He lowered his head until his forehead nearly touched the ground, and said: “Rather, I eat …”
I say: This is a weak chain of transmission, due to Ubayd Allah ibn al-Walid, who was al-Wassafi. Al-Hafiz said in al-Taqrib: “Weak.” However, he was corroborated: Ibn Sad recorded it (1/1/281) through the route of Abu Mashar, from Said al-Maqburi, from her, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording, in a hadith that I have cited in al-Da'ifah (2045). Abu Mashar, whose name was Nujayh, is likewise weak.
Al-Haythami said concerning the hadith (9/19): “Abu Yala narrated it, and its chain of transmission is good.”
It has a supporting report with a double break, recorded by Ibn Sad (1/371) from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording. Its narrators are trustworthy. Al-Bayhaqi also narrated it, as stated in al-Manawi’s al-Fayd, and he said:
