Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

Qudāmah: Bishr ibn ʿUmar narrated it to us, through the same chain. Al-Tirmidhī said: “A good, singular hadith. We know of no one besides Bishr ibn ʿUmar who transmitted it with a continuous chain to the Prophet.”

Al-Mundhirī said immediately afterward in al-Targhīb (3/288–289): “This Bishr is trustworthy; al-Bukhārī, Muslim, and others cited him as evidence, and I know of no adverse criticism of him.”

Al-Ḍiyāʾ al-Maqdisī also recorded it in al-Aḥādīth al-Mukhtārah (59/200/1).

529 — “I do not shake hands with women. My word to one hundred women is no different from my word to one woman.”

Mālik recorded it (2/982/2), as did al-Nasāʾī in ʿIshrat al-Nisāʾ, from his al-Sunan al-Kubrā (2/93/2), Ibn Ḥibbān (14), and Aḥmad (6/357), all through Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Umaymah bint Ruqayqah. She said: “I came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with a group of women to pledge allegiance to him upon Islam. We said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, we pledge allegiance to you that we will not associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill our children, nor bring any slander that we have fabricated, nor disobey you in what is right.’ The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘To the extent that you are able and capable.’ She said: ‘We replied, “Allah and His Messenger are more merciful to us than we are to ourselves. Come, O Messenger of Allah, let us pledge allegiance to you.”’ The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, then said the above.”

Al-Nasāʾī also recorded it in al-Mujtabā (2/184), as did al-Tirmidhī (1/302), Ibn Mājah (2874), Aḥmad, and al-Ḥumaydī in his Musnad (341), through Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, with the same chain. Al-Ḥumaydī and al-Tirmidhī, however, abridged it, adding after the words, “Come, let us pledge allegiance to you”: “Sufyān said: She meant, ‘Shake hands with us.’” Aḥmad’s version reads: “We said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, will you not shake hands with us?’” Al-Tirmidhī said: “A good and authentic hadith.”
