He then failed to point out that this addition is interpolated into it and is from the words of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, as indicated by the bracketed addition. In one narration recorded by Ahmad, it reads: “ʿAffān narrated to us; Ḥammād narrated to us”—with this chain. The chain of transmission is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim. Moreover, Ḥumayd explicitly stated that he heard it in Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb’s narration from him. He said: “I heard Anas ibn Mālik say: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘Tomorrow there will come to you people whose hearts are more tender toward Islam than yours.’” He said: “Then the Ashʿarīs arrived, among them Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī. When they drew near to Medina, they began chanting in rajaz verse:

Al-Ṭabarānī also narrated it in al-Kabīr (3:175–176) through another route from Yazīd, with this chain.
