The righteous shaykha Umm al-Khayr Sitt al-ʿArab, daughter of Yahya ibn Qaymaz ibn ʿAbd Allah, al-Tājiyya al-Kindiyya, informed us—this was read to her while I listened in Ramadan of the year 681 AH—together with Abū al-ʿAbbās ibn Shaybān, Ibn al-ʿAsqalānī, and Abū al-Ḥasan ibn al-Bukhārī. They said:
Abū Ḥafṣ ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad ibn Tabarzad informed us, the text being read to him while we listened. He was informed by Abū Ghālib Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Bannāʾ—this too was read to him while I listened, in the year 524 AH—who was informed by Abū Muḥammad al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Jawharī, from a text read to him, who was informed by Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Jaʿfar ibn Ḥamdān ibn Mālik al-Qaṭīʿī.
Muḥammad ibn Yūnus ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl narrated to us, from Ḥanẓalah ibn Abī Sufyān, from al-Qāsim, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—used to perform ghusl after janābah: he would scoop a handful of water for the right side of his head and then scoop another handful for the left.”
