Al-Jammāl Aḥmad ibn Abī Bakr ibn Sulaymān al-Wāʿiẓ ibn al-Ḥamawī informed us—I read the report to him while he listened in Rajab of the year 680 AH, and it was read before him again in 681 AH. He said: Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Jalīl ibn Abī Ghālib ibn Abī al-Maʿālī ibn Mandawayh informed us, the text having been read to him while I listened in 610 AH. He said: Abū al-Maḥāsin informed us; he said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Naqqūr the cloth-merchant informed us, the narration being read to him. He said: Abū al-Qāsim ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Baghawī informed us in 315 AH. He said: Abū ʿUthmān Ṭālūṭ ibn ʿAbbād al-Ṣayrafī related to us from his own written copy. He said: Faḍḍāl ibn Jubayr narrated to us; he said:

“I heard Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī say, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—say:

“Guarantee six things for me and I will guarantee Paradise for you: when any of you speaks, he must not lie; when he is entrusted, he must not betray; when he makes a promise, he must not break it; lower your gaze; and restrain your hands….”’”
