Al-Imām Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn ʿĀmir ibn Abī Bakr al-Ghasūlī related to us—when I read the report to him in the year 682 AH—saying:
Abū al-Barakāt Dāwūd ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Mulāʿib related to us—this was read before him; he said: al-Faḍl Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn Yūsuf al-Armawī related to us—upon a public reading; he said: Abū al-Ghanāʾim ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Maʾmūn related to us; he said: Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn ʿUmar ibn Aḥmad ibn Mahdī al-Dāraquṭnī narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Baghawī narrated to us; he said: Ṣāliḥ ibn Ḥātim ibn Wardān narrated to us; he said: al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Razzāq told me, from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd, from his father—may Allah be pleased with him—who said:
I said, “Messenger of Allah, you have given so-and-so and so-and-so, yet you withheld from so-and-so although he is a believer.”
He replied, “Or (you mean) a Muslim.”
