“hāʾum (Come here),” he answered. “What do you say about a man who loves a people but has not yet joined them?”

He replied, “A person is with those he loves.”

He went on to tell us that, toward the west, there is a gate that Allah—Mighty and Majestic—opens for repentance; its width is the distance of a forty-year journey, and it will not be closed until the sun rises from that direction. Concerning this Allah says:

“On the day when some of your Lord’s signs arrive, no soul will benefit from its faith.” (al-Anʿām 6:158)
