The imam and ḥadith authority, Zayn al-Dīn Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Khayr Salāmah ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Salāmah ibn al-Ḥaddād al-Dimashqī informed us; the book was read to him while I listened in Rabīʿ al-Awwal of the year 675 AH.
I said to him: “Abū Saʿīd Khalīl ibn Abī al-Rajāʾ ibn Abī Fath al-Rārānī licensed you; the work was read before my father while I listened in Ḥarrān in the year 666 AH. Yūsuf ibn Khalīl informed you; al-Rārānī informed us; Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Ḥaddād informed us; Abū Nuʿaym Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq—the ḥāfiẓ—informed us; Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Yūsuf ibn Khallād informed us; al-Ḥārith ibn Abī Usāmah related to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Bakr related to us; Ḥumayd related to us, from Anas.”
Anas said:
The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—saw a rope stretched between two of the mosque’s pillars. He asked,
“What is this rope?”
They replied, “Messenger of Allah, a certain woman prays as long as she can remain mindful; when weariness overtakes her she holds on to it.”
He said, “Let her pray only while she is mindful; but when fatigue overcomes her, let her sleep.”
