The righteous, well-grounded shaykhs—Abu ʿAbd Allah Muhammad ibn Badr ibn Muhammad ibn Yaʿish al-Jazari, Abu al-ʿAbbas Ahmad ibn Shayban, Abu al-Fadl Ismaʿil ibn Abi ʿAbd Allah ibn al-ʿAsqalani, and Zaynab bint Ahmad ibn Kamil—related to us; it was read to them while I was listening in Shaʿban of the year 675 AH at Qasyun.
They said:
Abu Hafs ʿUmar ibn Muhammad ibn Tabarzad al-Baghdadi informed us; it was read to him as we listened. Abu al-Qasim ʿAbd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn ʿAbd al-Qadir ibn Yusuf, Abu Mansur ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahid, and Abu al-Fath ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Baydawi likewise informed us; it was read to them while I listened.
They said:
Abu Jaʿfar Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Muslim al-Muʿaddil informed us; Abu Tahir Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn al-ʿAbbas al-Mukhlis informed us; Abu al-Qasim ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz al-Baghawi informed us. ʿAbd Allah ibn Mutiʿ narrated to me; Ismaʿil ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us—al-Baghawi said—and Salih ibn Malik narrated to me; ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to us—al-Baghawi said—and my grandfather narrated to me; Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us. All of them transmitted it from Humayd, from Anas:
that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
“I entered Paradise, and there I beheld a palace of gold. I asked, ‘For whom is this palace?’
They replied, ‘For a young man from Quraysh.’ I thought that it must be me, so I asked, ‘And who is he?’
They said, ‘ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab.’”
