The devout imam, learned scholar and ascetic, Kamal al-Din Abū Zakariyyā Yaḥyā ibn Abī Manṣūr ibn Abī al-Fatḥ ibn Rāfiʿ ibn ʿAlī al-Ḥarrānī, son of al-Ṣayrafī, informed us; the text was read to him in Shawwāl of the year 668 AH.
Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Yaḥyā ibn Barakah ibn al-Daybaqī likewise informed us; it was read to him while I listened.
Abū Manṣūr ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn al-Ḥasan al-Qazzāz informed us; it was read to him on the twenty-first of Jumādā al-Ūlā, 534 AH.
Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn al-Muslim al-Muʿaddal dictated it to us from his own words at the request of our shaykh, Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb, in Ṣafar of the year 463 AH.
Abū al-Faḍl ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad al-Zuhri informed us.
Abū Bakr Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn al-Mustafād al-Firyābī narrated to us.
Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd narrated to us.
Ismāʿīl ibn Jaʿfar narrated, from Abū Suhayl Nāfiʿ ibn Mālik ibn Abī ʿĀmir, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah—may Allah be pleased with him—who traced it back to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who said:
“The marks of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is entrusted, he betrays the trust.”
