Muhammad ibn Ibrahim—may Allah have mercy on him—recited to me:
[metre: al-wāfir]
When hearts are swathed in utter despair,
and the once-spacious breast is tight with care;
when hardships settle in and make their home,
and weighty trials cast anchor where they roam;
when no clear path remains for pain to fade,
and even keenest minds find craft betray’d—
then, just as you give way to hopeless gloom,
there comes relief, a gift from al-Latīf, the All-Responsive One.
For every trial, once it has reached its end,
is ever joined to near deliverance, Heaven-sent.
