65 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to me; he said: ʿUbayd Allah ibn Muḥammad al-Taymī narrated to me; he said: a shaykh, a client of ʿAbd al-Qays, narrated to me, from Tāwūs, who said:
“I was in the Hijr—the semicircular enclosure beside the Kaʿba—one night when ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn entered. I said to myself, ‘A righteous man from a noble Household; tonight I shall listen to his supplication.’ He prayed, then prostrated, so I strained my ear toward him and heard him saying in his prostration:
‘Your servant at Your courtyard,
Your destitute one at Your courtyard,
Your poor one at Your courtyard,
Your petitioner at Your courtyard.’
Tāwūs continued, ‘I memorized those words, and never did I invoke Allah with them in a time of distress without being granted relief.’
