6 – ʿAli ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Wahid ibn Sulaym narrated to me; ʿAtaʾ ibn Abi Rabah narrated to me, from Ibn ʿAbbas, who said:

While I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said to me, “Young man, be mindful of Allah and He will keep you safe; be mindful of Him and you will find Him before you. When you ask, ask Allah; and when you seek help, seek help from Allah. The pens have dried and the pages have been lifted. By Him in whose hand is my soul, if the whole community were to strive to benefit you with anything that Allah has not written for you, they would never be able to do so; and if they sought to harm you with something other than what He has decreed for you, they would never be able.”
