49 – Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; Fudayl ibn Marzūq reported to us. Abu Salama al-Juhanī narrated to me, from al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his father, who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“No Muslim is ever afflicted by anxiety or grief and then says, ‘O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your male servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand; Your command over me is ever executed; Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that is Yours—by which You have named Yourself, revealed in Your Book, taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself within the knowledge of the unseen—that You make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my eyes, the dispeller of my sorrow, and the remover of my anxiety,’ without Allah removing his anxiety ⦗58⦘ and replacing his sorrow with relief.”
They said, “O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn these words?” He replied, “Indeed; whoever hears them ought to learn them.”
