31 – Khalid ibn Khidāsh narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Zayd ibn Aslam related to me, from his father, from Aslam, that Abū ʿUbaydah was besieged in Syria and the enemy had taken its toll on him. ʿUmar ⦗46⦘ ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allah be pleased with him, wrote to him, saying: “Whatever hardship descends upon your affairs, Allah will bring relief after it; one hardship can never overcome two eases. He, the Exalted, also says: ‘Be patient, persevere, stand on guard, and fear Allah so that you may succeed.’ (Āl ʿImrān 3:200)”
