91 – Sulaymān narrated to me; he said: Qurʾān b. Tamām al-Suddi told me, on the authority of Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh, who said: After Khālid had done to him what he did, ʿUmar writhed about while still in the irons; then the coat fell open, and it looked as though tufts of wool lay there. He cried out, “There is no deity but You; exalted are You! I was indeed among the wrongdoers” (Q 21:87). Those present remarked, “What an omen—his relief will surely come quickly.”
