48 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn said: Dāwūd ibn al-Muḥabbar narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād narrated to us; he said, “I heard Mālik say to Hawshab, ‘Abū Bishr, remember two pieces of advice from me: do not go to bed while your stomach is full, and stop eating while you still crave the food.’” Hawshab replied, “Abū Yaḥyā, this is the regimen recommended by the physicians of worldly people.” Muḥammad ibn Wāsiʿ was listening to their conversation and remarked, “Indeed—and it is also the prescription for the path of the people of the Hereafter.” Mālik exclaimed, “Bakh, bakh (bravo, bravo)! It benefits both the abode of the Hereafter and this world.”
