- Hārūn ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: Siyyār narrated to us; he said: ʿUthmān Abū Ibrāhīm—one of Mālik ibn Dīnār’s close companions—narrated to us; he said: I heard Mālik say to one of his brothers, “I am craving a soft, thick loaf of bread with some curdled milk.” The man went off, brought it to him, and Mālik kept looking at the two of them. Then he said, “I have been longing for you for forty years and have always defeated you; do you want to defeat me now? Take it away from me.” And he refused to eat it.
٤٥ - حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ أَبُو إِبْرَاهِيمَ - مِنْ جُلَسَاءِ مَالِكِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ - قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مَالِكًا، قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ إِخْوَانِهِ: «إِنِّي لَأَشْتَهِي رَغِيفًا لَيِّنًا ثَخِينًا بِلَبَنٍ رَائِبٍ» ، قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقَ، فَجَاءَهُ بِهِ، فَجَعَلَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِمَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إِنِّي اشْتَهَيْتُكَ مُنْذُ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةٍ فَغَلَبْتُكَ، أَفَأَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَغْلِبَنِي الْآنَ؟ ارْفَعْهُ عَنِّي» ، وَأَبَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَهُ
