“The houri will say to the friend of Allah as he reclines with her beside the River of Honey, passing the goblet between them: ‘What a splendid life! Do you know, beloved of Allah, when my Lord gave me to you in marriage?’ He will answer, ‘I do not know.’ She will reply, ‘He looked upon you on a long, scorching summer day while you were parched in the midday heat, exhausted by thirst. He then boasted of you before the angels, saying: Look at My servant—he has forsaken his wife, his desire and pleasure, his food and drink for My sake, longing for what I possess. I call you to witness that I have forgiven him. On that very day He forgave you and joined me to you in marriage.’”
