- ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to me; he said: Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Ḥāzim narrated to us; he said:
“ʿĀʾishah ended the day fasting, possessing nothing but two loaves of bread. A beggar came, so she instructed that one loaf be given to him. ⦗166⦘ Then another beggar arrived, and she ordered that the second loaf be given to him. Her maid-servant objected, whereupon ʿĀʾishah said, ‘Watch what you will break your fast with.’
When evening came, someone started knocking at the door. She asked, ‘Who is that?’ They replied, ‘The messenger of so-and-so.’ ʿĀʾishah said, ‘If he is a slave, admit him.’ He entered carrying a roasted sheep with a large piece of bread on top. ʿĀʾishah said to her maid, ‘This is better than your loaf. By Allah, they had never sent me anything like it before.’”
