272 – Shujaʿ ibn al-Ashras narrated to us; he said: Hashraj ibn Nubatah narrated to us, from Abū Nuṣayrah, from Abū ʿUsayb, who said: ⦗164⦘ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out one night. As he passed by me he called me, so I came out to join him. He then passed by Abū Bakr and summoned him, and he came out; then he passed by ʿUmar and called him, and he too came out. They continued until they entered a walled garden belonging to one of the Ansar. The Prophet said to the owner of the garden, “Serve us some busr (half-ripe dates).” The man brought a cluster and set it down; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his Companions ate from it. He then asked for cold water and drank, after which he said, “You will most certainly be questioned about this blessing on the Day of Resurrection.” ʿUmar took the cluster and struck it against the ground until the dates scattered. Someone asked, “O Messenger of Allah, will we really be questioned about this on the Day of Resurrection?” He replied, “Yes—except concerning three things: a cloth with which you cover your nakedness, a piece of bread that satisfies your hunger, and a house that shelters you from heat and cold.”
