250 – Muhammad related: Al-Salt ibn Ḥakīm told me, saying, “I heard Abū Jaʿfar al-Mukhawwalī declare:
“The hungry heart is close to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, far from Satan; close to goodness, far from evil; close to righteous deeds, far from sins; close to fellowship, far from affliction.”
I asked, “What does ‘close to fellowship, far from affliction’ mean?”
He answered, “When it passes by gatherings of remembrance, it feels at home with their people and sits with them. But when it passes by gatherings of evil—and those are the affliction—it flees from them.”
