207 – Muhammad said: Yahya ibn Bistam narrated to me; he said: Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Sumiʿ al-Azdi narrated to us: One of the governors invited Shumayṭ al-ʿAnsī to a meal, but he offered an excuse and did not attend. When people asked him about it, he replied, “Doing without a single meal is easier for me than handing over my religion to them. A believer’s stomach should never be dearer to him than his faith.”
