Al-Ju'Ibn Abi al-Dunya

189 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn related: Ismaʿil ibn Ziyad narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Thabit al-ʿAbdi, from Abu ʿImran al-Jawni, who said:

ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab declared, “We are better acquainted with fine, delicate food than many of those who actually eat it; yet we avoid it for the Day when ‘every nursing mother will be distracted from the child she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will miscarry her burden’ (al-Hajj 22:2).”

Abu ʿImran added, “By Allah, he and his household never received from food anything beyond what sufficed for bare subsistence.”
