Al-Ju'Ibn Abi al-Dunya

161 – Muḥammad ibn Idrīs narrated to me; he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ⦗105⦘ Hāniʾ narrated to us; he said: Sufyān—meaning Sufyān al-Thawrī—recited:

A pinch of salt and a crust of coarse bread
will suffice you from all that lies behind locked doors and is begrudged;
and if you drink from the Euphrates you will be nourished,
rivaling those who feast on richly layered tharid.
Belch when they belch, as though you had spent the day
bursting with every variety of khabis.
