140 – Muhammad ibn Salam al-Jumahi narrated to us; he said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thabit, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Rabah, who said: “Muʿawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan once visited me, and we lodged with a monk. Food was brought to us, and while the others began to eat, I held back. He asked, ‘What is wrong?’ I replied, ‘I am fasting.’ He said, ‘Shall I not strengthen your resolve to keep your fast?’ I said, ‘Certainly.’ He said, ‘A banquet will be spread in Paradise, and the first to partake of it will be those who fast.’”
