20 – Ishaq ibn Ibrahim narrated to us; he said: Muʿadh ibn Hisham informed us, saying: my father related to me, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik, who said:
“I once went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carrying barley bread and some ihala sanikhah (rancid fat). He had already pawned his coat of mail to a Jew, and I heard him repeatedly say, ‘By Allah, not a single saʿ of dates nor a saʿ of grain has dawned upon the household of Muhammad.’ Yet on that day he had nine wives in his care.”
