18 – Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Malik narrated to me; he said: … narrated to us; he said: Hudayj ibn Muʿāwiyah narrated to us; he said: Kinānah, the freedman of Safiyyah, narrated to us, from ⦗39⦘ Safiyyah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, who said:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me in my house and said, ‘Daughter of Huyayy, do you have anything? I am hungry.’ I replied, ‘No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, nothing except a mudd of flour.’ He said, ‘Then prepare it.’

So I put it in a pot and cooked it. When it was done I said, ‘It is ready, O Messenger of Allah.’ He asked, ‘Do you know whether there is anything in the ghee-skin of the daughter of Abū Bakr?’ I answered, ‘By Allah, I do not know, O Messenger of Allah.’

He went himself to her house and said, ‘Is there anything in your ghee-skin, daughter of Abū Bakr?’ She replied, ‘There is only a little in it, O Messenger of Allah.’ He returned in person, squeezed what was in it into the pot until I could see what dripped out along with the ghee. Then he placed his hand in it and said, ‘In the name of Allah,’ invoked blessing, and said, ‘Call your sisters, for I know they feel the same hunger that I feel.’

⦗40⦘ I called them, and we ate until we were full. Then Abū Bakr came and asked permission, so we stood up; then ʿUmar came, and after him another man. They ate until they were satisfied, and some of it was still left over.”
