- al-Hasan ibn Maḥbūb reported to us, saying: al-Fayḍ ibn Isḥāq narrated to us, and he said: Ḥudhayfa related, “Mālik ibn Dīnār set a loaf of bread before him. His own soul whispered, ‘If only there were something else with it!’ He answered, ‘So you are still here!’ A poor Bedouin then happened to pass by, and Mālik said, ‘Bedouin, take this.’ When the next night came, the soul was content with bread alone and no longer craved anything beside it.”
