16 – Hārūn ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to us, saying: Sayyār narrated to us; he said: Jaʿfar narrated to us; he said: Mālik ibn Dīnār narrated from al-Ḥasan, who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never once ate his fill of bread and meat except on dafaf (that is, in the midst of a public gathering).” Mālik added: “I did not know what dafaf meant, so I met a Bedouin and asked him. He replied, ‘It means that he would only partake of it openly, in the presence of the people.’”
