Al-Ju'Ibn Abi al-Dunya
  1. ʿAli ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us, saying: Mahbūb the Ascetic informed me; he said: al-Hasan stated:

“I met people for whom no garment was ever folded away—none of them possessed an extra piece of clothing. Never did any one of them express a craving to his household, nor did he ever order them to prepare a special meal. Not one of them ever divided an inheritance with his brother. If an estate fell to both of them, he would say, ‘It is yours,’ for he disliked occupying his soul with anything of this worldly life.

Indeed, one of them would eat a single meal and wish that it would remain in his stomach the way a brick remains in water, so that it would suffice him as his entire share of this world.”
