108- Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; he said: Wakiʿ related to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Mundhir al-Thawri, from al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym, that he once said to his family, “Prepare for us ⦗82⦘ some khabīṣ (a sweet porridge).” They prepared it, and he invited a man who was mentally impaired. Al-Rabiʿ kept putting morsels into the man’s mouth while his saliva dripped. His family objected, “We went to all this trouble and made it, and then you feed it to this man? He does not even know what he is eating!” Al-Rabiʿ replied, “Yet Allah knows.”
