89 – Muhammad b. Qudamah al-Jawhari related to me: Marwan b. Mu‘awiyah told us, from Abu Dawud al-Rumi, who said: ⦗75⦘ A man said to ‘Umar b. ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, “Shall we prepare a remedy that will make you relish food?” He replied, “And what would I do with that? By Allah, when I enter the privy I am pained by what comes out of me.” It was then suggested, “Shall we prepare a remedy that will increase your desire for women?” He answered, “And what would I do with that? By Allah, the urge does come to me on occasion, but I find it nothing more than a moment of heedlessness and a fleeting surge.”
