79 – Surayj ibn Yūnus narrated to me; he said: Marwān ibn Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, from Qays, from ʿUtbah ibn Farqad, who said:
“I brought ʿUmar several baskets of khabīs (a sweet confection). When I set them down before him, he uncovered one of them and asked, ‘Do all the Muslims have access to this?’ I replied, ‘No, Commander of the Believers; this is something the governors keep for themselves.’ He said, ‘Then I have no need of it,’ and he went on to recount the rest of the report.”
