the Acts of Allah’s Servants* by al-Bukhārī (1); Monotheism by Abū Bakr ibn Khuzayma (2); The Sunnah by Abū al-Qāsim al-Tabarānī (3), Abū al-Shaykh al-Asbahānī (4), and Abū Abd Allāh ibn Mandah (5); and The Names and Attributes by Abū Bakr al-Bayhaqī (6);

(1) Al-Bukhārī’s *Creation of the Acts of Allah’s Servants* was published in Delhi in 1306 AH. Ibn Taymiyya referred to it previously at 2/253. A manuscript copy is held in the Āshir Raʾīs Library under no. 139, as noted by Brockelmann, 3/179. The book was also published in the aforementioned collection *Creeds of the Early Muslims*. (2) Abū Bakr Muhammad ibn Ishāq ibn Khuzayma ibn al-Mughīra ibn Sālih ibn Bakr al-Sulamī al-Naysābūrī was the leading scholar of Nishapur in his time. Al-Subkī called him “the Imam of the Imams.” Al-Bukhārī and Muslim narrated from him outside their two *Sahīh* collections. He was born in 223 AH and died in 311 AH. For his biography, see *Tadhkirat al-Huffāz*, 2/720–731; *Tabaqāt al-Shāfiʿiyya*, 3/109–119; and *al-Alām*, 6/235. His *Monotheism and the Affirmation of the Attributes of the Lord, Mighty and Majestic* was published by al-Munīriyya Press, Cairo, in 1353 AH. (3) Abū al-Qāsim Sulaymān ibn Ahmad ibn Ayyūb ibn Mutayr al-Lakhmī al-Tabarānī—whose nisba refers to Tiberias in al-Shām—was one of the leading hadith scholars. He was born in 260 AH and died in Isfahan in 360 AH. For his biography, see *Wafayāt al-Ayān*, 2/141; Ibn al-Jawzī, *Manāqib al-Imām Ahmad*, al-Khānjī ed., p. 619; *al-Alām*, 3/181; and Sezgin, m [0–9], j [0–9], pp. [0–9] 93–396. I found no mention among his listed works of the book to which Ibn Taymiyya referred. Above the words “and *The Sunnah*,” the annotator Mustajīzāda wrote: “Praise be to Allah, I possess this book and have read it many times.” (4) Abū Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Jafar ibn Hayyān, known as Abū al-Shaykh al-Ansārī al-Asbahānī, was a prolific hadith transmitter. He was born in 274 AH and died in 396 AH. For his biography, see *Tadhkirat al-Huffāz*, 3/945–947; *Shadharāt al-Dhahab*, 3; Ibn al-Athīr, *al-Lubāb*, 1; and *al-Alām*, 4/264. Brockelmann also mentions him at 3/226–227, and Sezgin at m [0–9], j [0–9], pp. [0–9] 04–406, but neither mentions his book *The Sunnah*. Mustajīzāda wrote above the title: “I possess this book and have read it.” (5) The biography of Ibn Mandah—Muhammad ibn Ishāq ibn Muhammad—appeared above at 1/425. Brockelmann also provides his biography at 3/228–229, as does Sezgin at m [0–9], j [0–9], pp. [0–9] 38–440, but neither mentions this book of his. (6) Abū Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Husayn ibn Alī al-Bayhaqī al-Shāfiʿī was the leading scholar of Khurasan and one of the foremost hadith authorities. The text states that he was born in 458 AH. For his biography, see *Tabaqāt al-Shāfiʿiyya*, 4–16; *Shadharāt al-Dhahab*, 3/304–305; and *al-Alām*, 1/113. His *The Names and Attributes*, edited by Muhammad Zāhid al-Kawtharī, was published in Cairo in 1358 AH.
