are greater than the realities of these worldly things to an extent (1) that cannot be known, though both are created. As for the bliss [whose] (2) kind is unknown, Allah [Glorified and Exalted is He] (3) has spoken of it in general terms in His words:
{No soul knows what delights have been kept hidden for them.}
[Surah al-Sajda: 17].
It is authentically reported from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—[that he] (4) said:
“Allah Most High says: ‘I have prepared (5) for My righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and what has never occurred to a human heart.’” (6)
Thus, if these two created things share the same name, even though in reality there is between them—
(1) N reads *mimmā* (“from/than that which”); M reads *limā* (“for/because of that which”).
(2) “whose” is omitted from N and M.
(3) “Glorified and Exalted is He” is added in A and B.
(4) “that he” is omitted from N and M.
(5) N and M read: “Allah says: ‘Indeed, I have prepared…’”
(6) The hadith narrated by Abū Hurayra—may Allah be pleased with him—is found in: *Sahīh al-Bukhārī*, 4:118 (Book of the Beginning of Creation, chapter “What Has Been Related concerning the Description of Paradise and That It Has Been Created”); 6:116 (Book of Quranic Commentary, chapter on the commentary of Surah Tanzīl al-Sajda); and 9:144 (Book of Tawhīd, chapter on Allah Most High’s words, “They wish to change the words of Allah”); *Sahīh Muslim*, 4:2174 (Book of Paradise and the Description of Its Bliss and Its Inhabitants, at the beginning of the book, through three chains of transmission); *Sunan al-Tirmidhī*, 5:26 (Book of Quranic Commentary, chapter on the commentary of Surah al-Sajda); *Sunan Ibn Mājah*, 2:1447 (Book of Asceticism, chapter on the Description of Paradise); *Sunan al-Tirmidhī*, 2:335 (Book of Heart-Softening Reports, chapter on What Allah Has Prepared for His Righteous Servants); and *al-Musnad*, al-Maʿārif ed., 17:46 and 19:104.
