The entire Quran affirms this foundation. Allah Most High says:
“Alif-Lām-Mīm. This is the Book in which there is no doubt, a guidance for those mindful of Allah—those who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend from what We have provided for them; and those who believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you, and who have certainty in the Hereafter. They are upon guidance from their Lord, and they are the successful.”
[Surah al-Baqarah: 1–5]
Allah, Glorified is He, has thus described the believers characterized in these verses as possessing guidance and success.
Allah Most High also says, concerning His sending Adam down from Paradise:
“If guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray nor suffer. But whoever turns away from My remembrance will have a miserable life, and We shall raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection. He will say, ‘My Lord, why have You raised me blind when I used to see?’ He will say, ‘Thus did Our signs come to you, but you forgot them; and so today you will be forgotten.’”
[Surah Tā Hā: 123–126]
He has thus informed us that whoever follows the guidance that has come to us from Him—namely, what the messengers brought—will neither go astray nor suffer. As for whoever turns away from His remembrance—namely, the remembrance He sent down, which consists of His Books with which He sent His messengers (1)—this is shown by His subsequent words:
“Thus did Our signs come to you, but you forgot them; and so today you will be forgotten.”
“Remembrance” is a verbal noun that is annexed sometimes (2) to its subject and at other times to its object, just as one says, “the beating of the cloth” and “the fuller’s beating” (3). It is also said (4): “Zayd’s eating” and “the eating of the food,”
