And Allah Most High says:
“And they swear by Allah that they are indeed one of you, though they are not one of you. Rather, they are a people overcome by fear.”
[Surah al-Tawbah: 56].
And Allah Most High says:
“Have you not seen those who ally themselves with a people with whom Allah is angry? They are neither of you nor of them, and they knowingly swear to a lie.”
[Surah al-Mujādilah: 14] (1).
Thus, He declared that the hypocrites belong neither to the believers nor to the People of the Book. No group among those who outwardly profess Islam contains more such people than the Rāfidah and those who have joined (2) them.
Allah Most High has also said (3):
“On the Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him, their light will stream before them and to their right. They will say, ‘Our Lord, perfect our light for us and forgive us. You are indeed Most Capable of all things.’”
[Surah al-Tahrīm: 8].
And Allah Most High says:
“On the Day when the hypocrite men and women will say to those who believed, ‘Wait for us so that we may take some of your light.’ It will be said, ‘Go back behind you and seek light there.’”
[Surah al-Hadīd: 13].
This demonstrates that the hypocrites were not included among those who believed with him. Of those who had been hypocrites, some repented of their hypocrisy and desisted from it, and they (4) were the majority, as evidenced by the words of Allah Most High:
“If the hypocrites, those in whose hearts is sickness, and the rumor-mongers in Medina do not desist, We will surely incite you against them. Then they will remain your neighbors there only briefly—accursed; wherever they are found, they will be seized and utterly slain.”
[Surah al-Ahzāb:
