And Allah Most High said:

“Allah has certainly turned in mercy to the Prophet and the Emigrants and the Helpers who followed him in the hour of hardship, after the hearts of a group of them had almost swerved. Then He turned to them in mercy. Indeed, He is Most Kind and Merciful to them.”

[Surah al-Tawbah: 117] (1)

Thus He coupled them with the Messenger in His turning to them in mercy.

And He [Most High] (2) said:

“Indeed, those who believed, emigrated, and strove with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah, and those who gave refuge and aid—these are allies of one another. As for those who believed but did not emigrate”

[Surah al-Anfāl: 72] (3)

—to His words:

“And those who subsequently believed, emigrated, and strove alongside you—they are of you.”

[Surah al-Anfāl: 75]

He thus affirmed mutual alliance (4) among them.

And He said to the believers:

(1) The phrase “Indeed, He is Most Kind and Merciful to them” is absent from N. (2) “Most High” is an addition in A and B. (3) N omits His words Most High: “As for those who believed but did not emigrate.” In M, there is a lacuna after His words Most High, “…allies of one another,” extending to His words Most High, “Your ally is only Allah and His Messenger…” (4) N reads: “al-wilāya” (alliance).

وَقَالَ تَعَالَى: {لَقَدْ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ وَالْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوهُ فِي سَاعَةِ الْعُسْرَةِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا كَادَ يَزِيغُ قُلُوبُ فَرِيقٍ مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّهُ بِهِمْ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ} [سُورَةُ التَّوْبَةِ: ١١٧] (١) ، فَجَمَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الرَّسُولِ فِي التَّوْبَةِ. وَقَالَ [تَعَالَى] (٢) .: {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَهَاجَرُوا وَجَاهَدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِينَ آوَوْا وَنَصَرُوا أُولَئِكَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَلَمْ يُهَاجِرُوا} [سُورَةُ الْأَنْفَالِ: ٧٢] (٣) . إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: {وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْ بَعْدُ وَهَاجَرُوا وَجَاهَدُوا مَعَكُمْ فَأُولَئِكَ مِنْكُمْ} [سُورَةُ الْأَنْفَالِ: ٧٥] ، فَأَثْبَتَ الْمُوَالَاةَ (٤) . بَيْنَهُمْ. وَقَالَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ:

(١) عِبَارَةُ " إِنَّهُ بِهِمْ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ " لَمْ تَرِدْ فِي (ن) (٢) تَعَالَى: زِيَادَةٌ فِي (أ) ، (ب) (٣) فِي (ن) : لَمْ يَرِدْ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: (وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَلَمْ يُهَاجِرُوا) . وَيُوجَدُ سَقْطٌ فِي (م) بَعْدَ قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: (. . . أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ) حَتَّى قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: (إِنَّمَا وَلِيُّكُمُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ. . .) (٤) ن: الْوِلَايَةَ
