Ibn Battah also narrated, by way of Ahmad, from Abd al-Rahmān *) (1) (2) ibn Mahdī, and by another route from Wakī and Abū Nuaym—all three from al-Thawrī, from Nusayr ibn Dhulūq (3), who said:
I heard Abd Allāh ibn Umar say:
“Do not revile the Companions of Muhammad (4). A single hour spent by one of them—that is, with the Messenger of Allah (5), peace and blessings be upon him—is better than forty years of deeds by any one of you.”
In Wakī’s narration:
“It is better than a lifetime of worship by any one of you.” (6)

(6) I was unable to locate this report in Ibn Batta’s *al-Ibāna* or in *al-Musnad*. Ibn Taymiyya cites it in *al-Sārim al-Maslūl*, p. 580, saying: “Ibn Umar alluded to this. Nusayr ibn Dhuʿlūq said: ‘I heard Ibn Umar—may Allah be pleased with him—say: Do not revile the Companions of Muhammad, for the time spent by any one of them is better than all your deeds.’ Al-Lālakāʾī narrated it.” It also appears in *Fadāʾil al-Sahāba*, nos. 15, 20, 1729, and 1736.

.: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ: لَا تَسُبُّوا أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ

، فَلَمُقَامُ أَحَدِهِمْ سَاعَةً، يَعْنِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ

- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - خَيْرٌ مِنْ عَمَلِ أَحَدِكُمْ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً.
وَفِي رِوَايَةِ وَكِيعٍ:
خَيْرٌ مِنْ عِبَادَةِ أَحَدِكُمْ عُمْرَهُ

(٥) أ، ب: النَّبِيِّ.
(٦) لَمْ أَجِدْ هَذَا الْأَثَرَ فِي " الْإِبَانَةِ " لِابْنِ بَطَّةَ وَلَا فِي " الْمُسْنَدِ ". وَذَكَرَ ابْنُ تَيْمِيَّةَ فِي " الصَّارِمِ الْمَسْلُولِ " ص ٥٨٠، فَقَالَ: " وَإِلَى هَذَا أَشَارَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ نُسَيْرُ بْنُ ذُعْلُوقٍ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - يَقُولُ: لَا تَسُبُّوا أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ فَإِنَّ مُقَامَ أَحَدِهِمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عَمَلِكُمْ كُلِّهِ، رَوَاهُ اللَّكَائِيُّ " وَهُوَ فِي " فَضَائِلِ الصَّحَابَةِ " الْأَرْقَامُ ١٥، ٢٠، ١٧٢٩، ١٧٣٦
