“A Muslim must hear and obey, whether he likes it or dislikes it, unless he is commanded to commit an act of disobedience. If he is commanded to commit an act of disobedience, then there is neither hearing nor obedience.” (1)
Ka‘b ibn ‘Ujrah related:

(1) This hadith and the discussion of it appeared previously. See p. 119, n. [0–9].
(2) “After me” is omitted from A and B.
(3) The hadith in this wording is found in *Sunan al-Nasāī* (with al-Suyūtī’s commentary; Cairo ed., 1383/1964), 7:143 (Book of the Pledge of Allegiance, “One Who Does Not Assist a Ruler in Injustice”), narrated from Kab ibn Ujrah—may Allah be pleased with him. It is also found in *Sunan al-Tirmidhī*, 3:358 (Book of Tribulations, chapter beginning “Hārūn ibn Ishāq al-Hamadhānī narrated to us”), where it reads: “and he will come to the Pool.” Commenting on it, al-Tirmidhī said: “This is a sahīh (sound), gharīb (singularly transmitted) hadith. We know it as a report of Misar only through this chain. There are also reports on this subject from Hudhayfah and Ibn Umar.” The hadith also occurs with different wording in *Sahīh al-Tirmidhī*, 2:61–62 (Book of Friday Prayer, “What Has Been Related Concerning the Merit of Prayer”). See also Ibn al-Athīr, *Jāmi al-usūl*, 4:460–461; and *al-Musnad* (al-Halabī ed.), 3:321, 4:243, and 5:384.
(4) N reads: “and in the Sahih.”
