his household was among the things commanded by Allah and His Messenger. Al-Siddīq, may Allah be pleased with him, used to say:
“Show regard for Muhammad in your treatment of his household.”
Al-Bukhārī reported this from him (1). He also said:
“By Allah, maintaining ties with the relatives of Allah’s Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is dearer to me than maintaining ties with my own relatives” (2).
(1) This hadith appeared earlier at 4/254. After this hadith, manuscript (n) contains the following: “The book was completed through Allah’s favor, generosity, assistance, and abundant blessings, during the day on the revered Friday, 21 Jumādā al-Ūlā, in the year 1005 after the Prophet’s Hijra—may the finest blessings and peace be upon him. It was written in the hand of the poor servant who acknowledges his sins and shortcomings and hopes for the pardon of his Lord, the Bestower of favors: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahmān al-Sammān. May Allah forgive him, his parents, and all Muslims. Amen.”
After this comes a blank space extending from the middle of the page to near its end, where an ornate frame contains the following in large script: “May Allah bless our master Muhammad, his family, and his Companions, and grant them peace.”
Manuscript (m) contains the following after this hadith: “The book was completed with Allah’s help. There is neither power nor strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent.”
In manuscript (s), this hadith is followed by wording extending over more than two pages. It is identical to the wording with which the Būlāq printed edition (b) ends, which I reproduced in the introduction to the first edition. However, manuscript (s) adds several lines absent from copy (b):
“Here ends what stood at the close of the original. The weakest of servants, Abū Ismāʿīl Yūsuf Husayn ibn al-Qādī Muhammad Hasan al-Khānafūrī al-Hanbalī al-Salafī, declares that this book was successfully completed at midmorning on Wednesday, the fifth of Allah’s sacred month, Muharram, in the year 1322, with the help of Allah, the Sovereign, the Bestower—to Him is the return and final destination—through my limited efforts and weary hand. I therefore ask Allah to grant me through it a share in the Hereafter, to grant a good outcome in all matters to me, my parents, my teacher, all believing men and women, and all Muslim men and women, and to protect us and them from disgrace in this world and punishment in the Hereafter. May Allah Most High bless the best of His creation, Muhammad, his family, his Companions, and all the imams of his religion, with beneficence until the Day of Judgment, and grant them peace in great, great abundance. Glory be to You, O Allah. Their greeting therein is ‘Peace,’ and the close of their supplication is ‘Praise be to Allah, Lord of all worlds.’”
