And His words:
“The first and foremost among the Emigrants and the Ansār” [Surah al-Tawbah: 100],
and other such verses praising the believers of this community. Abū Bakr embodied most perfectly the qualities for which Allah praises the believers. He is therefore the one most deserving of inclusion among those described in these verses (1), and the most perfect of those included. Thus, it is clear that he is the best of this community.

The Rāfidī said (2): “As for the Most High’s words:
‘Say to those Bedouins who stayed behind’ [Surah al-Fath: 16] (3),
He meant those who stayed behind rather than joining the expedition to al-Hudaybiyyah. They sought to set out for the spoils of Khaybar, but Allah Most High barred them with His words:
‘Say, “You will not follow us.”’ [Surah al-Fath: 15]
For He, Most High, had assigned the spoils of Khaybar to those who had been present at al-Hudaybiyyah. Then He, Most High, said:
‘Say to those Bedouins who stayed behind, “You will be called to face a people of great military might.”’ [Surah al-Fath: 16]
And the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, called them to many military campaigns (4)
