Minhaj as-SunnahIbn Taimiya

and extolled Him, then said:

‘No one has been more generous to me [with] (1) himself and his wealth than Abū Bakr ibn Abī Quhāfa. If I were to take an intimate friend, I would take Abū Bakr as my intimate friend, but the bond of friendship in Islam is better. Block up every small doorway in this mosque except Abū Bakr’s.’” (2)

The two Sahīh collections also report from him that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Of all people, Abū Bakr has been the most generous in his companionship and wealth.”

Al-Bukhārī also reports from Abū al-Dardā’, who said that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Allah sent me to you, and you said, ‘You are lying,’ while Abū Bakr said, ‘You are speaking the truth.’ He supported me with himself and his wealth. Will you not leave my companion alone for my sake?”

He said this twice (3), and Abū Bakr was not harmed thereafter (4).

In the two Sahīh collections, Abū Hurayra said that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“No wealth has ever benefited me as much as the wealth of Abū Bakr.”

Abū Bakr wept and said, “Do I and my wealth belong to anyone but you, O Messenger of Allah?” (5)

Umar said:

“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, commanded us to give charity. This happened at a time when I had some wealth, so I said to myself, ‘Today I shall surpass Abū Bakr, if I am ever to surpass him.’ I brought half my wealth, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘What have you left for your family?’ I replied, ‘An equal amount.’ Abū Bakr brought all his wealth, and the Prophet said to him—may Allah bless
