Minhaj as-SunnahIbn Taimiya

and his words:

“We have granted you multitudes,
So pray to your Lord and emigrate,
And obey no sorcerer (1) or unbeliever.”

And his words:

“By the women who grind,
And the women who knead,
And the women who bake—
Fat and clarified butter!
The land is divided into two halves between us and Quraysh, but Quraysh are a people who do not act justly.”

And other such nonsense.

Thus, when the delegation of Banū Hanīfah came to Abū Bakr after Musaylimah had been killed, Abū Bakr asked them to recite something from Musaylimah’s “Quran” to him. When they did, he said to them:

“Woe to you! What has become of your senses? These words did not come from an ill”—that is, from a Lord (2).

During the Prophet’s lifetime, Musaylimah had written to him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“From Musaylimah, the Messenger of Allah, to Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah. To proceed: I have been granted a share (3) in this matter with you.”

The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, wrote back to him:

“From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to Musaylimah the liar.”

When his envoy came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, he asked him, “Do you testify that Musaylimah is the Messenger of Allah?”

He replied, “Yes.”

He said, “Were it not that envoys are not to be killed, I would have struck off your head.”

Then, after this, one of the two envoys openly declared his apostasy

(2) Ibn al-Athīr writes in al-Nihāya fī gharīb al-hadīth: “In the report concerning al-Siddīq (Abū Bakr), when Musaylima’s words were presented to him, he said: ‘This did not originate from an ill’—that is, from divine lordship. Al-ill, pronounced with an i vowel, means Allah Most High. It is also said that al-ill means ‘a sound source’; that is, it did not come from the source from which the Quran came…” (3) s, b: fa-innī kuntu qad ushriktu (“For I had been granted a share”).
