We therefore say:
Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of the Prophet’s biography who hears such words will be certain of one of two things: either their speaker is among the most ignorant of people concerning the history of the Companions, or he is among the most brazen in lying. I suspect that this author and others like him among the leaders of the Rāfidah merely transmit what is in their predecessors’ books without examining it or consulting the historical accounts (1) of Islam and the books written on the subject to acquaint themselves with Islamic history. Thus, this man and others like him remain in the darkness of ignorance concerning both transmitted knowledge and rational understanding.
There is no doubt that fabricators of lies (2) are exceedingly numerous (3) among the leaders of the Rāfidah. Most of these people are driven by their desires or by ignorance. They believe anyone who tells them what accords with their desires, without investigating whether he is truthful or lying. Conversely, they accuse anyone who tells them (4) what conflicts with their desires of lying, without investigating whether he is truthful or lying. The words of Allah Most High apply to them in ample measure:
“Who, then, does more wrong than one who lies about Allah and rejects the truth when it comes to him?” [Surah al-Zumar: 32]
Likewise, His words apply in ample measure to people of knowledge and religious devotion:
“The one who brings the truth and the one who affirms it—those are the God-fearing.” [Surah al-Zumar: 33]
Among the gravest instances of ignorance and misguidance in these words is his counting (5) Banū Hanīfah
