It may further be said:

Second: This is an obvious lie. By universal agreement, Banū al-Nadīr are the people concerning whom Allah revealed Surah al-Hashr. They were Jews, and their affair took place before the Trench and Uhud. No pitched battle or rout is mentioned in connection with it (1), nor was the incisor of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—struck by anyone’s projectile during it. His incisor was injured only on the day of Uhud.

During the campaign against Banū al-Nadīr, the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and the Muslims had (2) laid close siege to them and cut down their palm trees. Concerning them, Allah Most High revealed:

“Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing on their roots was done by Allah’s leave, so that He might disgrace the defiantly disobedient.”

[Surah al-Hashr: 5]

They did not come out to fight, such that any of them could have been routed; rather, they remained in a fortress and fought from behind it. As Allah Most High said:

“They will not fight you all together except in fortified towns or from behind walls. Their hostility among themselves is intense. You think them united, but their hearts are divided.”

[Surah al-Hashr: 14]

Then the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—expelled them without killing them. Allah Most High said (3):

“He is the One who expelled from their homes those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture, at the first gathering. You did not think they would leave, while they thought their fortresses would protect them from Allah. But Allah came upon them from where they did not expect.”

[Surah al-Hashr: 2]

This continues up to His words:

“So take heed, O people of insight.”
