to Islam.’
Amr said, ‘I have no need of that.’
Ali said, ‘I challenge you to single combat.’
Amr replied, ‘I do not (1) wish to kill you.’

First, where is the chain of transmission for this report, and where is the proof that it is authentic?
Second, several other lies were also stated in connection with this campaign. One is his claim that Quraysh, Kināna, and the people of Tihāma numbered ten thousand, whereas all the Confederates together—from these groups; from among the people of Najd, namely Tamīm, Asad, and Ghatafān; and from among the Jews—numbered close to ten thousand. The Confederates consisted of three groups (5): Quraysh and its allies (6), namely the people of Mecca and its surroundings; the people of Najd—Tamīm, Asad, Ghatafān, and those who joined them; and the Jews, namely Banū Qurayza.
There is also his statement that Amr ibn Abd (7) Wudd and Ikrima [ibn Abū Jahl] (8) rode forward and entered through a narrow passage in the trench.
