“Abd al-Rahmān ibn Awf will enter Paradise crawling”;
and their claim:
“God Most High’s statement:
‘And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His Face’
(Surah al-An'ām: 52),
and:
‘And remain steadfastly in the company of those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His Face’
(Surah al-Kahf: 28)(1)
was revealed(2) concerning Ahl al-Suffa (the People of the Portico)”;
and the hadith:
“Al-Mughīra ibn Shu'ba’s servant is one of the forty abdāl (substitutes)”;
as well as hadiths mentioning the abdāl, the aqtāb (poles), the aghwāth (sources of succor), the number of Allah’s allies, and similar matters—all of which hadith scholars know to be false.
Likewise, reports of this kind(3) … can be identified as false without recourse to hadith scholars. For instance, we know that God Most High’s words:
“And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening”
(Surah al-An'ām: 52),
and:
“And remain steadfastly in the company of those who call upon their Lord morning and evening”
(Surah al-Kahf: 28)
occur in Surah al-An'ām and Surah al-Kahf, respectively(4). Both are Meccan surahs by universal agreement, whereas al-Suffa existed only in Medina.(5) Likewise, there is what they narrate in hadiths about the Ascension(6): that he saw his Lord in such-and-such a form.
