This Rāfidī did not quote it in full, for the report states at the point where it says:
“And you are my brother and my heir.”
He asked, “What shall I inherit from you, O Messenger of Allah?”
He replied, “What the prophets before me inherited.”
He asked, “And what did the prophets before you inherit?”
He replied, “The Book of Allah and the sunnah of their prophet.” (1)
This chain of transmission is obscure. Abd al-Mu’min ibn Abbād—one of the impugned narrators—alone transmitted (2) it; Abū Hātim deemed him weak (3). He narrated it from Yazīd ibn Ma’n, whose identity is unknown; perhaps Yazīd was the one who fabricated it as a narration from Abd Allāh ibn Shurahbīl, who is unknown, from a man of Quraysh, from Zayd (4) ibn Abī Awfā.
Second: [This] (5) is a fabricated lie by the unanimous agreement of the experts.
Third: The hadiths concerning bonds of brotherhood among the Emigrants themselves and among the Helpers themselves are all false. The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—did not establish a bond of brotherhood with Ali, nor did he pair Abū Bakr and Umar as brothers, nor did he pair one Emigrant with another. Rather, he established bonds of brotherhood between the Emigrants and the Helpers, as he did between Abd al-Rahmān ibn Awf and Sa’d ibn al-Rabī’, between Salmān al-Fārisī and Abū al-Dardā’, and between Ali and Sahl ibn Hunayf.
